Frequently Asked Questions

  • HeartMoves is a Movement Technology facilitated by our patented invention -- the HEART®.

The system draws from ideas underlying other mind/body movement systems such as yoga, tai chi, ballet, martial arts, and flow state activities.

You use the two external handles of the HEART in many of the core exercises and flow patterns. in other exercises you will hold the integrated central handle with one hand.

There are also movement vocabularies where you hold a HEART in each hand.

You can even take your HEARTs into the pool as swim aids like fins for your hands. Try the crawl or breast stroke, (we don’t recommend the backstroke).

Additionally, we have unique partner and group exercises for HeartMoves in group settings.

The work is based on Paul's 35+ years in the mind/body field studying many forms of movement and searching for the ideal shape and tool to enhance a "flow" stimulating internal energy, and facilitate stretching, and alignment of the spine and musculature.

Please watch “Birth of a HeartBeat” and “Poetry in Motion” (if you haven’t already! :) )

  • HeartMoves connect you to the HEART (literally), and the heart in your body, metaphorically.

So, HeartMoves is a new and revolutionary system that makes sophisticated mindful movement patterns accessible to everyone.

You will learn how to ground and connect your body (like a wrestler in a stance, or baseball batter up at the plate), center yourself; and then move your own internal energy.

This is challenging to explain in words. We highly encourage watching “Birth of a Heartbeat” to see how the HEART was created, “Poetry in Motion” to see the how the system works....

AND, TAKE A ZOOM! Just do it.

It is an experience. Unique for every person! Find your Flow. Move the Way YOUR body wants to.

  • There are MANY benefits to a practice of HeartMoves. Think of it as an ergonomic tool to facilitate your access to moving internal energy in our body -- your chi!

Also, if you studied a mind/body system like ballet, tai chi, boxing, muay tai, HeartMoves will give you access to finding those patterns fast and simply.

HeartMoves includes unique "signature movements" that revolutionize wellness and fitness.

Additionally, HeartMoves unique partner and group movements are awesome!.

  • YES.

Whether you are a Tai Chi Master or it's your first step into the world of Mindful Movement, HeartMoves can be done by anyone. HeartMoves facilitate circular patterned mindful movement, and also can be used for alignment and stretching.

The HEART’s unique shape embodying a hyperbolic paraboloid, and and the infinity symbol, facilitates an infinitely creative array of movement patterns for you!

  • Absolutely!

At home, at the beach, at the office, in the airport. Be creative!!

Take pics and post them on our FB page

  • NONE. We've had 2 years old and 92 year olds take part in our classes.

  • We suggest 2 to 3 times per week. However, we have had participants do HeartMoves over the course of years once per week.

With that type of consistency the results are cumulative and people see results.

Discipline is everything...like brushing your teeth!

  • YES, HeartMoves illicit mindful movement taking you into the moment....and quite often stress will fall away immediately as you let go of anxiety and engage the movements in the moment.

  • Yes! We've had participants use the system for various ailments including cancer, ataxia, knee and hip issues.

HeartMoves are particularly good for increasing the mobility and strength of the shoulder joint.

We also have participants who are limited to wheelchairs and developed movements for people in bed who want movement during Covid.

  • YES! In fact at a demo in Washington DC on the National Mall, a pregnant woman joined the group and LOVED it saying it made her feel so good when mostly she felt so uncomfortable. Of course take the same precautions would in any exercise regimen pregnant.

  • Great Question! Here is the REAL answer!

No! You do not have to do anything and we would encourage the goal of only doing what you really want in life, and always improvising to make things work.

So, as a former wrestling coach we make things work. You can mimic some HeartMoves with a kitchen plate, or even a shoe. On the other hand you would not be able to do the single hand exercises with the plate, possibly with the shoe. But neither of those objects will lead your body through “flow patterns” so effortlessly — like the HEART. If you really want to feel the affect of the shape, take it into a pool and move it in the water which is more dense than air and you will feel it finding the flow patterns.

So, my real answer is: just get a HEART. I’ve spent years and years working to find the best tool possible to find your flow, ground your body, stretch, and align your spine. With modern day production we’ve been able to bring the cost down; and it probably less then dinner for two with drinks — which are gone in one evening :) !!

    My real suggestion?

Get twoHearts and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you on the Zoom!

Then, find a friend and try they partner work!

  • Yes. At the moment everyone takes class with Paul and he makes it accessible to everyone on every level.

As you get familiar with the "vocabulary" like yoga, tai chi, martial arts, or ballet or any other mind/body activity, the level of challenge can be increased for anyone of any level.

  • Currently they are 1 hour Zooms with Paul.

We look forward to offering 3 min, 5 min, 10 min, 20- 30- 40 min classes.

  • There are several major differences!

    1. In HeartMoves we do not “isolate muscle groups” and in fact aim to use muscles in harmony and synchronistically so they they blend together for movement enhancing peak performance.

    2. In weight training you “push against gravity” while in HeartMoves the idea is to “blend with gravity” looking for flow state. Thus, the goal is increase the complexity of movement rather than increasing the weight. So, just think of Yoda. Go with the major force on the planet (gravity) rather than push against it. ;)

    3. Many weight training exercises are move in one plane of motion, straight lines, while HeartMoves are circular; and MANY of the patterns CROSS THE MIDLINE OF THE BODY. Some theorize this leads to increased creativity and many other mind benefits. From experience, we definitely believe this is true.

    4. We (Paul here…I) could go on ;) ) but will end with… HeartMoves blends ideas from both Chinese ribbon & fan dance exercises and thus draw upon a long history of both flow and staccato type movements…. We do cover this in the HeartMoves ExperiencZoom Room…..

    5. See you there!
